The company was founded in 1977, so no one can match us when it comes to experience. We've been through it all – revolutionary technological leaps, economic highs and lows, and constantly growing demands for increased availability and security – in short, we know this industry.

Our history

ENACO was founded in 1977 by Bo-Gösta Rönnberg and Sebastian Wrethagen. However, it was Bo-Gösta's wife who came up with the company name. ENACO, which is a telescoped word for Environmental Air Conditioning, reflects one of the industry's major challenges – to remove excess heat from server rooms and entire data centers. During the first decades, ENACO's business focused on manufacturing efficient climate control systems and ventilation fans.

From strength to strength

With customers such as Ericsson, Atlas Copco, Handelsbanken, and SAS, ENACO quickly grew in size and revenue during the 1980s. The expression "The ENACO Way" was coined, and the company opened offices in Gothenburg, Malmö, and Linköping. At this time, the company was unique in offering 24-hour emergency service, attracting a steady stream of customers.

The IT era creates huge market opportunities

During the IT boom of the 1990s, the demand for servers increased significantly, and we assisted companies with their own data centers and operating facilities (on-premises) in construction and operation. The market grew by several hundred percent, and ENACO became one of Sweden's largest suppliers of server rooms, ventilation, data centers, and secure IT operations.

The ups and downs of the 2000s

During the 2000s, the need for secure IT operations continued to grow. More and more companies built up their digital information and service platforms, and ENACO was entrusted to assist several of them. The economic crisis in 2008 did not significantly affect the business; instead, it accelerated digital transformation, leading to increased capacity needs and heightened availability requirements. The trend towards more secure data centers resulted in the conversion of several former military bunkers into spaces for data operations, with ENACO being involved in a couple of such projects.

Colocation and energy efficiency

In the early 2010s, the market shifted towards fewer mid-sized operating spaces as more and more companies chose to outsource the operation of their IT equipment. The market expanded significantly, and ENACO was involved in numerous projects across the country, designing and building turnkey data centers for colocation. ENACO's design was no longer solely focused on comprehensive projects for secure data centers but also on being extremely energy-efficient – both for operational economics and for the environment. The capacity demand increased, and the number of kW/square meters has increased tenfold over the past decade.

ENACO today

As one of Sweden's leading providers of critical infrastructure, we constantly stay up-to-date with the latest in technological developments.
